Fix First-Connection & SSH Errors
Symptom: /setup-ssh, /first-run or /diag reports that the connection fails.
The three most common causes:
- SSH is not enabled in DSM — Control Panel → Terminal & SNMP → Enable SSH service.
- Wrong port — check the SSH settings in DSM.
- The user does not exist on the NAS or has no shell access.
You accept the host key during the interactive ! ssh-copy-id step (review the fingerprint). Then re-run /diag — all automated connections then run with BatchMode=yes and the cached key.
